When it comes to air conditioner parts, people often first think about the compressor outside. But, the air handler that is located inside your home is also a significant part that is key to operating the system. Not only is it important to keep the air handler clean and make sure that it’s properly sized for your home and compressor, it’s also important to make sure that it’s keeping you as comfortable as possible. Some recent advances in a/c technology have produced what in my industry is called a variables-speed air handler, and it’s worth considering when you start thinking about replacing or upgrading your a/c system. The air handler is what helps distribute hot or cold air into the ductwork and then throughout your house. Because the variable-speed air handler is designed to only run at high speeds whenever temperatures rise, it helps save energy and operates more efficiently than your standard single-speed types. Having an efficient air handler helps optimize your indoor air comfort from being quieter, helping maintain more consistent air temperatures throughout the house, maintain good humidity control, and naturally, helps you save money. And by now, you know how I feel about that. If you are considering some upgrades or a replacement, check with your air conditioning contractor to see what options they have for you.
